Maybelline Tattoo Brow Road Test
I like to think that I go into every review quite impartial. However, I must disclose that I really wasnt expecting to like the Maybelline Tattoo Brow 3 Day Gel – Tint. At first glance, the product seemed to be a little bit gimmicky and playing on some of the K beauty fads of peel off tints and makeup in general.
At $24.95 the Maybelline Tattoo Brow promises to boost your brows for up to 3 days by tinting the hairs and skin in a similar fashion to professional brow tinting.
Brow tinting is a great way to strengthen up your brow game however the time it saves you in not having to fill your brows in each morning can sometimes be negated by the time and effort to go into a salon for the service.. not to mention the price. So a quick and affordable solution at home could be revolutionary.
The packaging looks similar to a deluxe sample sized tube of mascara, however instead of a mascara wand there is a small, short bristled brush that looks similar to a lipgloss brush. The brush is covered in what can only be described as a glossy, thick goo.
So, how does it all work?
The process seems deceptively simple..
Step 1 – Apply the product to the brows, making sure to thoroughly cover all the hair and skin that you would like tinted.
Step 2 – Allow to dry for at least 20 minutes
Step 3 – Peel off to reveal instaworthy brows!
So lets go…
Starting off with clean, dry brows ….
I used the brush to apply an even layer of product to my brows. Pictured is the first time I tried the product. In subsequent applications I was a little more heavy handed and tended to stray from just where the hair was to include some sparser areas to help “even out” my brow shape.
… and then we wait. Maybelline recommends waiting a minimum of 20 minutes, but there is no reason why you cant leave it on for a lot longer to truly set on to the hairs and skin
And then the most nerve wracking part; peeling off the set gel. I was really concerned that I would lose a whole bunch of brow hairs in this process. However by using a brow spoolie at the tail of the brow by running it gently against the natural hair direction, the product loosened easily and could be peeled off in one or two pieces.
And the results? Well my brows looked instantly fuller, and took far less effort to fill in when doing my makeup. I think if youre gentle when cleansing then the tint can last 3 or 4 days but typically for me, on the third day the tint on the skin was minimal.
Over all I really liked the Maybelline Tattoo brow 3 Day Gel Tint. I think its perfect for those who like the look of darker brows without the look of brow products. It will help to make barely there or suer blonde brows look more substantial but if youre after extremely bold results you will probably need to use it in conjunction with other brow products.
for me personally, I think its a great product the help make my over plucked brows look more even, and while I still go through them with additional product on the daily the Maybelline Tattoo Brow helps to lay down a bit of a base that makes the job easier.
The Maybelline Tattoo Brow 3 day Gel – Tint is available in four shades and available in leading Pharmacies, Priceline and selected supermarkets.
